"Lyra doesn't seem to though.Makes me worried about her.She doesn't like any bad feeling whatsoever.When I was so angry the other day, she came over and told me I needed to stop or I was going to hurt myself.Since when does a filly tell her mother she's going to hurt herself?"

"I don't know."She then thought before saying."You don't think she heard them talking about....her brother,do you?"Esperanza now referred to Spirit as Lyra's brother.Though she still loved him,she was deeply disappointed that he still seemed so deranged and unfeeling.She also knew that mares talked about her,saying she was exactly the same.She sighed."What am I going to do with him?"

"Don't talk that way about your own son like that," Temon said. "I know what it's like to be a stallion his age and going through something like that." He didn't want to bring up his past, so then said,"You remember how Utah was when he first came back from the calvary, I know it's quite different, but he did want to have anything to do with any one." He then looked over the herd, not seeing the face he was looking for. "He never warmed up to his half brother Enre either," he said. Remembering that fight that had seemed to push Utah over the edge, which was the only way they got him back.

Esperanza averted her eyes and lowered her ears in shame.She knew that was a terrible way to speak about her children."All too well."She replied, remembering her son's reaction.She had not taken too kindly to Enre, and still felt a bit coldly towards him.She then glanced at the forest."Darling.....Where are the kids?"She asked, the two had disappeared from view completely.
"Come on Lyra!"Rebel laughed as he led his friend deeper into the trees.Lyra laughed as she continued to follow him until she suddenly stopped.
"Where's Ma and Papa?!"She asked, looking the way she'd just come.
"I..."Rebel began.He then scented something on the wind.A rank, rotting smell.Cougar!"Lyra.Stay close to me."He said as she pressed against him.A menacing growl was then heard, and Lyra screamed in fright before Rebel silenced her with a look.

Esperanza wasted no time.She bolted off in the direction of the trees.She was not going to lose her only daughter as well as her grandson to whatever he sensed.
The tawny beast had appeared and sat before the foals,yellow eyes glinting.Rebel bared his teeth and snorted harshly as he backed up slightly, Lyra keeping behind him.As if to only show off his power and strength, the mountain lion yawned, exposing it's huge teeth.Rebel shuddered but did not drop his stance.Lyra cowered however before turning and bolting."Lyra!NO!"Rebel screamed as the big cat sprang after her knocking Rebel down as it did so.The colt leapt back to his feet and cried out for help before giving chase to the big cat."Hey you stupid cat!Come this way!This way!"Rebel taunted.But distraction was not working,and Lyra was slowly tiring.

Temon had went after Esperanza, but when he heard the cry for help, he turn a bit and head another way to cut off the way they were coming rather than missing them. He came charging through the valley and into the woods. His heart racing as his hooves were pounding the ground hard and fast.

The cat was gaining on Lyra.She squealed as she leapt behind a tree.She would've been caught that time had she not dodged.Rebel shook as he continued to chase.He then raised his fore hooves, running on only his hind legs for a moment, before bringing them down on the cougar's back end.Rebel then froze, as the monstrous thing spun to face him.
"Oh, Equus!"He swore as he turned and started to run the opposite direction.The cat made up it's mind, the colt was older and larger than the filly, and would make a much better meal.It then began to chase after Rebel.

Temon came charging pass where Lyra had been. Not stopping for a second. He knew no one really knew how fast he was. Even for an old horse, he still had his speed and strength. He was gaining ground on the cougar and Rebel.

Temon came charging at the cougar, ramming it when he was close enough along it's side.

Rebel spun out and rolled away from the clawed paws and sharp hooves.He ran back over to Lyra to watch as his grandfather fought the vicious animal.The big cat finally gave up and disappeared into the trees.Lyra then spoke up.
"Papa, I...."

Temon stood there, head low and panting. He legs shaking quick a bit, but enough to see them.

Esperanza came into the clearing a few seconds after."Lyra!Rebel!Temon!Thank God you're all safe!"She nuzzled her mate before looking angrily at the colt and filly.Both put their ears back in shame."What were you two thinking?I told you to stay where we could see you for a reason!You could have been killed!"
