The Colonel pulling hard to one side made Utah have no other choice, but to turn that direction. Utah's gallop was slowed to a canter since the circle was so tight. Since the Colonel kept him in a small circle, Utah's canter came down to a trot. The bit was starting to hurt Utah. He kept chowing and playing with the metal bit. Utah was become tired from fighting the Colonel. Utah knew as soon as he was out of the circle he was going to try harder to get away from the Colonel. But he wasn't sure that he would have the energy to do so.

Utah lunged forward again, this time trying with all the energy he had left to buck and rear to try and throw the Colonel off, but nothing seemed to work. Utah was getting even more tired. The heat of the sun was not helping. It was almost afternoon. This had been going on for about and hour or more.

Utah stopped short. He was out of it. There was no way he could throw this man from his back. Utah was breathing heavily and panting. He lowed his head. He couldn't take this anymore it was either this or have sand-bags thrown over his back with a saddle on. And those sand-bag were mighty heavy if Spirit couldn't get away from them. Utah sighed. He glanced up at the Colonel and then turned away from his. He saw the soldiers along the watching him and the Colonel closely.
