Utah stopped. He turned his head to look over his shoulder. Then he looked away. Then he turned and said, "Wait. I'll come." He headed toward her at a walk. He looked at his mother. "Just don't say anything to anyone about you know," he said. "I will only tell Sage after the birth of our foal."

Utah followed her back to the herd. He hid what he could. Hoping no one would ask any questions.

No one really noticed them until Esperanza pushed her way between them to get to Sage.She waited for Utah."You came."Sage whispered,her face sweaty but looking relieved.

"I couldn't miss the birth of our foal," Utah said. "It is my mom we should thank." He laid down beside her. He didn't want anyone to notice and laying down helped him to be closer to Sage.

Sage lay flat against him.Her sides were heaving and she really didn't like all these other mares staring at her.A spasm went through her body as she pushed.She whinnied though all she wanted was there.

Sage nodded,clenched her eyes and teeth together and pushed.The foal slid from her.it was a black apploosa,like his mother.The young mother gasped for breath and then looked at her foal."Our Rebel."She said."Our colt."

Utah looked at his new born son with pride and then turned his head in sorrow, knowing what was to come for the young colt.
