Mary looked to her. It was getting late. "Well, master will be out soon to feed us and another night will come," she said. "But this night brings rain."

The hermit came from he's shack carrying a sack on he's shoulder and buckets in both he's hands. He came to the dogs first. He found the old wooden bowls sitting empty on the ground. He flipped both of them over and used one bucket to fill both the bowls. Chance heard the sound of the food being pored into a bowl. "Food," Chance said as he leaped up quickly and ran over to the porch. The hermit laughed as the dogs came to eat. He walked over to the run in and pored the grain and oats into two different buckets for the mule and the horse. He took the sack off he's shoulder and dumped hay out onto the ground in between the two buckets. "Alright, enjoy your dinner," he said to Jenny and Mary as they came to the one part of the run-in where the food was normally put. Mary whinnied to the hermit as he waited for them to come.

Mary walked over to the run-in. She dug right into her evening meal. The hermit looked at them and smiled. "Enjoy your meals, ladies," he said as he patted both of them on the neck and headed toward the shack.

Mary eat quietly for a while, until she lifted her head from the bucket. She looked over at Chance and said to him, "You might want to slow down. It's not a ran. You're libel to choke on something." "Ha, ha, very funny," Chance said as he lifted he's head from the bowl to answer Mary. Then he went right back to eating.

Chance laughed at Spike. "Spike, I hope your going to eat what you threw around," Mary said, not to happy about people or other animals wasting food.

Mary sighed and shook her head. "That dog may never learn," she said in a joking way.

Chance finished quickly and lay by the door. Mary settled down on the bed of straw set in the other part of the run-in for them to lay on.

Chance stayed by the door. "Huh," he said as he turned away from the view of the run-in. "Still needs to cuddle," he said. Then all of a sudden, a flash or lightning lite the sky and a loud crash of thunder followed. Chance jumping and ran to the run-in, where he knew it would stay dry when it rained.
