"Seemed very secure with the wild.Rmember how jumpy she looked around us?Not one for herd life I don't think."Jenny commented as she watched Spike play with a piece of straw.

Chance came back and laid in the straw. "Yes. How long has it been since we've last seen her," Mary asked.

Jenny thought for a moment."A month I think,maybe two."

"Wonder where she got to? I miss seeing the wild horses come through here every now and then. Well, the ones that don't mind a human," she said.

"Hopefully someone drops by soon."Jenny said."Well, will you look at that..."She then said, looking out into the rain.A dappled gray mare was dragging herself slowly along. She had a blue circle around her left eye and funny symbols on her hindquarters."Someone help!"She muttered weakly before falling onto the muddy ground."Oh dear!"Jenny said to Mary.

"Hang on," Mary said. Mary gave a shrill whinny for help. The hermit had been sitting in he's shack working on a few things. He heard Mary's cry and raced out there to see what was the matter. Mary saw him coming and she began to circle and pace on the one side of the run-in. "Whoa, girl. What's the matter," the hermit asked in a calm voice. Mary whinnied lowly and kept looking in the direction of the mare. The hermit looked out into the rain and then saw a dappled gray mare laying on the ground. "Uh, oh. Well, we better get her out of the rain, girls," the hermit said. Usually he got Jenny out to help him with that. He would attach something around the body of the horse and have Jenny try to pull the horse up as he was on the other side of the horse trying to help get it up.

Jenny stood waiting anxiously. In the rain,it was impossible to tell if she was even still alive. She could have dropped dead and she couldn't have told the difference until you came close.Jen swore she heard the mare mutter again, but she still waited.

"Alright, Jenny. You know what to do," the hermit said as he led Jenny over to the mare and got them ready to try and lift the mare and bring her to the run-in.

The gray started when she saw the blurry outline of figures come towards her,but she couldn't get up.Jenny spoke to her gently, and the mare felt relaxed, and she soon passed out.Jenny did as she was told and carefully brought the mare into the run-in.

The hermit did all he could to help get the mare there safely. He then started to look over the mare to see what was troubling her.

The poor mare had a deep bullet wound underneath her right hip.She had been running when it had happened, hence the location. Also the reason she was moving so slow. They gray's green eyes opened and gazed blearily around."Where am I?Small Beaver, where are you?"She moaned. She gasped and then tried to rise."The pain, make it stop!"

"Whoa, easy girl," the hermit said as he tried to keep her down. He would have to do a little surgery to get it out, but he'd have to mix something to help the mare sleep while he did it.

"Your not my owner!"the mare snorted, trying to resist.Jenny looked over."Take it easy,he's not going to hurt you. What's your name?"She said calmly."Raksha."The gray replied.

"Jenny, watch over her," the hermit said to Jenny hoping that she understood what he meant. After all he couldn't talk to horses. The hermit got up and ran into the shack to get a mixture of herbs for the mare to drink to kind of knock her out for a while as he worked on her and she would not be able to feel any pain as he worked.

"You poor thing."Jenny said soothingly.Raksha looked the mule in the eyes."I want to go home."Jenny smiled a bit."You can soon."She said.
