Another day has come to the calvary fort. The sun had barely risen high enough to cast light upon the darkness of the fort. The sound of a bugle rang loud and clear through out the air. Soldiers ran from their quarters getting ready for the morning duties. Shouts or orders were being given out. There was a small amount of noise coming from the stable. Just a few low nickers and snorts among the horses. A small light chestnut colored mare raised her head to look out from her stall. A blaze marked her face as she brought it up. She sighed heavily. Another day that would drag on, the same as any other day. The mare was about the age of eight or nine. She was a thoroughbred. Her name was Heidi. She looked around a bit. She had had it a long while ago with this place. She wanted out, but she had lost hope so long ago. She wasn't as young and spirited as she had once been. She was luck to even still be a live at this place. She was used as an officers horse. She had been used for breeding once, but the last time she had a foal at age six, the foal had died due to a difficult birth. At that time she feared for her life, since the calvary seemed to never stay around too long ofter something like that. Yet now, it did not matter. She just wished she wasn't there.

"Great, another training day." The pinto stallion thought.Several mares and colts were saying the colonel was going to be riding most of them today, but he highly doubted it.It was blazing hot, another heat-wave.Heide was basically next to him, with a colt on the other side.Looking towards the gates,he snorted."I wonder how mother and father are doing. And Angel. What happened to her?" he shook his head as the colonel was outside his house, staring at him.
(sorry I have no muse)

Heidi turned her head away. Not wanting to see the human that stood staring into the stall next to her. The colonel turned his attention to a soldier and said, "Get some of these horses out. Some work needs to be done with them." "Yes, sir," the soldier replied. "Some work," Heidi snorted. "More like loads."

"Stop your complaining, you lazy bunch of nags!"Leopard, the bad tempered German Shepherd snarled."You don't like it, tough. It's the way of the Fort, work or die."He then laughed.

"Look who's talking," Heidi snorted at the dog. "The pet of the humans." She turned to Thunder. "If I weren't so old, I'd give them a good ride. Their faces would be in the dirt half the time."

"Sure they would be, tootsie. And I'm your uncle."The dog snickered again, her insult seeming to have no affect on him.

"Almost everyone around here should get a break," said Heidi.

"Well, you shouldn't be talking. You sleep most of the day," she said to the dog.
