The herd whispered again at the tone of his voice.Spirit did not call them to order.He simply waited."I have heard enough.The jury is now excused."Spirit said.About fifteen mares left to the edge of the forest.The remainder of the herd waited about twenty minutes before they reappeared."Has the Jury reached a verdict?"Spirit asked."We find the defendant Temon Utah to be guilty of the charge of illegal racing techniques,but cleared of other charges.For this charge,he will recieve removal from the herd.Your leadership,this is where his decision comes in.He may leave for ever,of for the simple sentence of two months,but he shall have marshals with him at all times when he returns."Spirit nodded to accpet the sentence as fair."Make your choice."He said.

Temon wasn't sure he looked over at Esperanza. He saw that she was sad. He wanted to talk it out with her. Temon looked back up at Spirit. "May I ask that I could have a word with Esperanza," Temon asked.

"Court is dismissed for a short intermission."Spirit said.The herd moved to give them space.Esperanza came towards him."Why didn't you tell me?I would have helped you,then he wouldn't think he could do this!"She told him.

"I will take the two months as long as I may be in the herd," Temon said. He really didn't want this, but it was the only way to stay with the one he loved.

Spirit's nostril flared and for a moment everyone held their breath,for he looked ready to attack,but he shook his mane and said,"Very well.Your sentence begins today."He then exited the court field.

Temon went off into the woods. He knew where he might find Angel and Eight Belles. Where ever the humans were, he was sure to find the racehorses.

The two fillies were in crossties at the moment,and people were putting a saddle onto Angel.A barn hand gently pulled her black and white streaked mane from the bridle,and admired her intriguing coat coloring.

Eight Belles stood still as he the grooms worked on her. They began to cut her mane shorter and cut the ends of her tail so they were straight and inline. A human came up to the fillies. "Sir," a groom said. "We found another filly along with Eight Belles. What do you think?" "She's no Thoroughbred," he said. "I'm not sure if we should race her."

Abgel heard his and stopped her resistance to The groom trimming large chunks of mats of mane from her two year growth.She gently nudged the person in charge and whinnied quietly.
