The soldiers back off, and went off to try again. They got another brander ready and they came to him.

Meanwhile....A gray mule was led out and a chain was tied around Cham's back legs. The mule was led to drag Cham off. Utah watch as Cham was dragged away. Utah didn't know Cham to well, but Cham had saved Spirit from that bullet. Utah whinnied to Cham. Cham gave a very low whinny in return. It was hard to hear, but he had whinnied lightly. Cham was dragged off toward a building toward the back. What they were going to do to him, Cham did not know. The mule looked back at Cham and said, "Don't worry. Someone has offered to try and save you. They have started a new thing around here."
Cham nodded to the mule's word as he was dragged in. Cham hoped they could help him, even if they were humans.

Thunder snorted at Spirit.He was too tired.Too weak.He bit one of the men in the wrong spot(you know what it is) he giggles as he falls to the ground.He shows his teeth,telling the humans to back off with the brander.

The soldier backed away. "We'll get him later," they said as they all back away from Thunder and headed toward the stable.

"That's my colt."Spirit called to him.He watched as Cham was dragged.Poor fellow.If he died,he would be remembered like a hero in the Cimarron.Spirit again felt pain in his hindquarters.He looked,another feather."Oh no.Not agaaaaain."His words slurred,as he slid to the ground into a deep sleep.

Thunder snorted."That teaches you to mess with me!"He yelled.He knew that the men would come back later.Looking into the sky,it was getting late.Thunder had enough rope to lay down on the ground,so he did.He snorted,and closed his eyes,falling asleep.He dreamt that the humans came back and branded him while he was sleeping.(*wink wink*)

Utah started trashing around trying to get away from these humans. Then he heard the sound of someone walking on a wooden deck nearby with spurs on. Utah looked over and saw an older looking human. The human had a gray beard and mustache. He’s hair almost as white as snow. His hat was held in his right hand along his side. He had long black boots on that were polished so they were spotless and a navy blue jacket and a sword along his side. The buttons on his jacket shined in the sunlight as he walked toward the soldiers and horses. He looked at the chestnut stallion. Then he called for the Colonel to come.

"Yes sir."He responded.
Spirit was taken away to the stable,he was to be put to sleep when he awoke from being tranquilized.The Colonel had planned for it to happen tonight at nine,so he could see the light leave the stallion's eyes before he went to bed.

The man who had called the Colonel was the General. He was the highest rank in the infantry. "Do something with this one," the General said pointing to the chestnut. "He's been standing around all day." He looked over at the buckskin that had slipped down in the stall. "What is to become of that buckskin," he asked
Some soldiers got the brand hot and ready to go after Thunder in his sleep. They came up to him and ready to press it onto his neck.

"The older buckskin is a previous escapee.We've recaptured him and he has caused much trouble.I have planned to have him put down.The younger one,I suspect of being his offspring because of the terrible attitude and big head.We are trying to break him to be a war mount for you,sir.And I told Jolie to take out this chestnut.Jolie!"A soldier came out of ranks."Yes Sir?"The Colonel looked at him."Take out this stallion."

"Colonel, do not put that stallion down and that is an order," the General said. "The colt, fine train him."
Utah looked around he saw that the soldiers holding the ropes to him had let down their guards. Utah got an idea. He didn't care that his front legs were still tied. He was going to try something. Utah whinnied loudly and lunged himself forward using his back legs. He was going to try and gallop or run in anyway he could using only what three legs he could use. He pulled some soldiers to the ground. He landed and did a rocking motion to lunge forward again using his back legs. He threw his head high and whinnied. Then reared up.
The soldiers came at Thunder and this time they had him.

Thunder couldn't hear them,see them or feel them.He was in a deep sleep.Snorting in his sleep,he accidently made the soldiers think he was awake.
