Temon stayed with Esperanza. He did not know what to say.
Utah traveled through the forest, stay away from all who try to come. He continued not wanting to talk to anyone. He circle the valley and continued on further into the woods. Then he heard someone behind him. It was Cham. Utah was a bit surprised to see Cham in this neck of the lands. Cham looked at Utah. "I remember you," Cham said. "You're the one who got caught by the calvary that day a while back."
Utah looked at Cham. He recognized this stallion, but he did not want to talk. He picked he's ears back and continued on. Cham did not let him go that easily. "What? Are you to good to talk to me now that you survived the calvary? I know we have hardly ever talked before, but still," Cham said.
Utah turned to him. Ears flat back on he's head. He bared he's teeth. "I have no wish to talk to anyone," he hissed.
"Whoa! Take it easy," Cham said. "I didn't come here to anger you."
"What did you come for," Utah demanded.
"I heard something about Spirit being thrown out of the herd," Cham said. "But for what?"
Utah turned away. And closed he's eyes tightly. "I don't want to talk about it," he said.
"Come on. You know that I am a friend to him as well," Cham said. "I care for he's herd and his family. I would never want to hurt them. And I would never tease them for anything. I just heard that he was thrown out."
"Word travels fast through these valleys," Utah said as he looked at Cham. "But is the truth being spoken."
"I only heard about him getting thrown out. So, I wouldn't know. I just want him to know that if he needed any place to stay, he could stay with my herd. You know we are the outcast stallions," Cham said in a not so proud tone. He hated saying outcast, but it was true. No herd wanted them and no mares or filly want to near them because of what they had done to them. Cham had changed he's ways quite a bit since the encounter with the calvary.
"I don't think he deserves to be with a herd after what he has done," Utah hissed angrily.
"What?! How can you say that about you're own brother," Cham said. "What has he done to turn he's own brother away from him?!"
"I will not say it," Utah turned from Cham.
"You will tell me," Cham said. "Don't make me fight you for the word. It is not worth fighting over."
"Why must you know? You are not of the herd," Utah said. "It doesn't matter to other herds."
"It does because he is a friend," Cham said. "And you his brother. You're not worth to be called he's brother if you lose faith in him for what he has done."
"Alright! I'll tell you what he did," Utah yelled. "He killed a foal in cold blood. For no reason and without warning. You happy now."
"He killed a foal," Cham said. "But why?"
"No one knows," Utah said. "The banned him right away. The judgment was quick and the punishment came fast."
"For family...Even though he did that...You should have talked to him to find out why. But you turned from him the second he did that," Cham said. "I hate to sound like I'm saying what he did was not wrong, but for family...You really are low."
"I trusted him almost from day one that I met him. He never had done anything like this. How can I trust him after what he has done. I believed him. I believed in he's ways. And now everything I know and believed is a lie! How can I believe anything?! My life was set on he's ways and the ways of the herd! And now everything has changed and everyone will change," Utah said.
"Some brother. Your trust is weak. You can't just run every time something has hurt you," Cham said.
"Then what am I suppose to do," Utah demanded.
"For one, you could not be a coward and face your fears and problem," Cham said.
"Don't call me a coward! I am no coward! I have faced my fears and problem," Utah said.
"Then what are you doing now, at this time, when someone needs you and your support," Cham said
Utah looked at him. "I...I...," Utah stuttered.
"Exactly," Cham said. "You have no reason. You only run from your fears. You coward."
"I am no coward," Utah snarled. As he lunged forward at Cham.
Cham didn't expect this and was hit in the chest. He was not going to run from this fight. This was a fight to help Utah realize what was going on and what he had to do. Cham stumbled back a few steps and then changed at Utah and turned and kicked him. Utah whinnied as he got kicked. He changed at Cham again. And reared up and hit Cham in the face. Cham reared up right away after that. They fought. The cries of their whinnies carried out into the mountain sides.
"For a horse that usually keeps he's cool," Cham started. "You really have a temper."
"I only use it when I need to," Utah said. "The calvary made me strong."
"No, the calvary made you weak," he said. The continued on fighting.
